UBER FABULOUS PERSON: The RED Edition Continued

Before I continue rhapsodizing about the person behind MECHANIZEDLIFE , let me give you a peek of the camera hud she invented. I took a picture wearing the hud that comes with the gadget and below is the result. The amazing thing about it is that it's easy to use and it comes with many different options. An idiot proof gadget with options? An absolute winner in my book.

[14:00] Freyja Brim: It takes a lot of patience to make/do scripts ... and excuse the double standard but this is usually a man's turf because women just don't have enough patience and analytical prowess for stuff like that.

This was where we left off, right? That moment where BASTI had to pause the interview for a glass of water. And that same moment where I spent a bit of time twiddling my thumb while worrying if that remark sounded too sexist. And this was how she fielded the question, gracefully at that.

[14:00] CodeBastard Redgrave: False. It's all a question of focus and motivation. The ex-owner of MechanizedLife is a girl, too. And one brainy chick. Geek girls are more and more into this kind of stuff. And yes, it sure is a question of personal interest which I don't think is defined by any biological markers. Girls are as smart and have as much analytic mind as boys. But some of us like shiny things so we get distracted.

I did see a shiny penny. Got distracted on cue (way to go eh?). Then the topic switched to girl talk and how she got her name.

Freyja Brim: And someday, when you write your autobiography, there should be one whole page devoted to explaining why such a lovely face has an incredibly hard ass name.

CodeBastard Redgrave: Hahahahaha! I can do better than that, wait.

And here are some snippets on her blog article explaining the whole shebang. Turned out I wasn't very original with the question about her name, after all:

And that was how I'd like to conclude this wonderful tete-a-tete with the fabulous BASTI. I would really love to put in the whole transcript in here but the rest are mostly girlish gabbing which would probably take up the whole page. I found out she's French Canadian and that she has very high tolerance for my ultra bright facelight which I totally forgot to take off after I took some pictures prior to the interview. Yes, I was properly mortified but she gracefully declined my offer to shoulder her lasik treatment.

UBER FABULOUS PERSON: The RED Edition

How often do you find yourself getting lucky in SecondLife? And by lucky, I don't mean to imply the joys of pose balls and pixelated acrobatics on a sex bed.

What I meant was, in this huge grid full of people aspiring to hone their fastidious affectations (myself included), it is such a refreshing change to come across a person who is totally devoid of self-righteous importance despite her monumental achievements.

The metaversal universe took pity on my pathetic boredom and threw an amazing opportunity at me to meet his uber cool and self proclaimed geek chick. She has invented the FilterCam in SecondLife which is one dream gadget for both photographers and videographers alike. She is also a master in the field of scripting and is the sexy proprietress of BOUDOIR ROUGE POSES.

So, it's just fitting that I mark this day as a proud moment for The Bargain Bin as CODEBASTARD REDGRAVE agreed to be part of my little corner in cyber space. CODIE to her friends but in my sterling moment of audacity, I told her I have christened her with a new name, BASTI. From here onwards folks, we will call her that.

And that was how the ambush interview started. Off to a roaring flurry of keyboard sounds as I tried to maintain my composure and prayed that I would not gush too much about how delirious I was to have met her.

Recently, I acquired MECHANIZEDLIFE and their current range of products, so that makes me the proud owner of one of the most extensive scripted product catalog in SL.

[13:57] Freyja Brim: That sounds so important when I put it alongside my profession .. "Shopper and Occassional Blogger".

[13:58] CodeBastard Redgrave: Hey, it takes everything to make a world. If you weren't a shopaholic, I would go bankrupt.

Random Prelude

Doing the The Most Random Hunt today was a bit of a challenge because some of the flowers (which you have to look for to get the prizes) are sometimes missing or there was an instance where you have to get another LM to a different store for you to find the hunt item. Fortunately, there were numerous people who helped me out, either directly (by shooting me a random IM) or indirectly (this is when I accidentally eavesdrop on people telling each other where the flower is).

On that note, I'd like to mention a few hunters who made this hunt easy for me.

The first official headache I got was at the Slab Style where it took me a gazillion years to look for the flower only to find out that the initial location didn't have the hunt prize anywhere in that vicinity. You have to scoot over to the back wall and get the LM to their new store. For this one, I have to thank Malice Mauvaise for solving the mystery.

Then there's Harris Emmons who figured out that Bettie's has no flower out yet and we have to go HERE to move on to the next location (I believe this is Skinsane's).

And finally, there was the Mole Hole. I'm sorry but I'm having another senior moment right now so I can't recall which place this is but when you get to a location where absolutely can't find the blasted flower, try to find a mole hole, use the tp to get underground where you will find the smug hunt prize floating cozily above the water. Tymmerie Thorne was nice enough to end everyone's frustration by letting us know about it so a big thanks goes out to her and her efficient mouse and graphics card.

As always, Ding Fotherington knows where everything is. I swear that girl has the best hunting radar in the whole wide grid so if you ever need help, give her a holler. And don't forget to drop by her SL On The DList (which also happens to be my favorite blog).

Overall, it was a fun hunt and I'm just about to start opening my loot. If I have time today and if the inclination hits me, I might even blog my favorites.

As a matter of fact, if you have any pose or poses that you want him to make, you might just be able to talk him into it.

FABULOUS PEOPLE: Fourth Edition

This entry is probably one of the hardest to write because there just aren't enough words to describe these people I'm about to feature today.

For starters, HEIDI HALBERSDADT and I met a long time ago and I can't even remember how we hooked up (yeah, shame on me and my memory gap). I'm also guilty of perving on myself too much when I'm in-world I hardly look at people's profiles so most of our interactions are always on IMs and I couldn't help but notice her ascerbic wit which would usually be a welcome reprieve to my brain farts. She makes me chuckle. Other times, she makes me LOL (never let it be said I don't go with the times using web speak). Overall, she's a hoot. With a terrific fashion sense bordering on edgy.

And then there was Blackie. Her partner. Who doesn't have any qualms about shopping with the girls or acting as our mirror (with fashion opinion at that). If Heidi can crack me up, bringing these two together is even worse. Their rapid exchange of hilarious repartee never fails to entertain and sometimes, I have to literally pause for breath after they bombard me with so many riotous dialogues.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen.. my post-valentine feature. I can't think of any other love struck couple who fits the bill perfectly because it's obvious they're crazy about each other (but truth be told, I also think they're just plain crazy). Time really flies when you're having fun because they just celebrated their first year anniversary in SL. So here's to more whacky encounters, uncooperative poseballs and many more mushy exchange behind my back ... I'm so glad to have met you both.

A Bayou themed 7 Seas Fishing Competition and Party on the Docks begins at 12 pm SLT on Sunday, February 15th; dress in your overalls and straw hats! 500L will be given to the overall top winner of the fishing contest which will last an hour.

We'll host a Movie night on Friday, February 20th. Please come by 7:00 pm SLT, we will start the movie at 7:10, to allow for any late comers. As of the time of this note, the movie selection is as yet undetermined, though it will be New Orleans or Vampire themed, to be certain.

Saturday, Feb 21st at 7pm, the Malkavians will host a Formal Masked Ball in Anarchy Castle. Appropriate attire is required.

I was dancing in a club with a few of my SLU friends and one of them was wearing the most adorable fur trimmed outfit. I asked her where she got it and she said she made it! O.O She gave me a landmark so last night I decided to check out her shop.I already have a few fur pieces (I won't wear it IRL... so I indulge in SL). I snatched up a couple more and totally fell in love with this Cloak.

I matched it up with a dress from ::bijou:: and a choker from PrimCision and all I can say is.. wow..

The cloak was about 200L and I got a capelet too. I will be going back for some hats once the first snow hits here! I feel so regal!

I was digging in my inventory for a pair of jeans and I ran across a pair called [Decoy] Genesis 10 in Dark Rust. I had forgotten how nice they were! So in the spirit of shopping adventure, I decided to head over to look for a shirt, and saw this jacket. The heavens opened, my jaw dropped and I went squeee! *okay, so only the last part happened* The textures are done by hand and not just a yellowy color that many designers try to pass off as gold. It is rich and metallic and lovely!It is on both a shirt and jacket layer and it comes in 6 different colors (don't quote me I was taken in by the gold one and mostly ignored the rest) with both white and jacket colored collar/belt. Because I am not the biggest fan of middrift baring clothes,I matched it with sashes from *PERSONA* in both burnt gold and white.

On the Ghostbusters Hunt I ran across a store called Frozen Turquoise Valentine and I made a note to come back when I had more time. I had seen a satellite shop earlier at the Wickford Village on a hunt. My friend Ann is a HUGE fan of the color teal, and this store is covered in it!

I saw this outfit and it was just jawdropping!So I had to snag it. The price tag wasn't tooooo incredibly painful.Then of course I didn't have any shoes that I felt were perfect for it, so I wound up getting the Bax Ankle boots in Patent leather...over at ALB That smarted a bit.. *grins*

I ran across this little number while freebie hunting with Frejya and just HAD to have it.
It is "Kirei" by Orchid Dreams. The texturing is amazing. The slacks are a golden brocade and the wrap top comes versions both light and dark versions. I picked up a few other pieces while there, but this one keeps me coming back. Dressy yet Casual and goes perfectly with my Eat Sushi! earrings from Talisman! The shoes are the Balmoral Pumps (were freebies!) in Green Tea..and I paired it with the Enamored Choker and Cuffs from Talisman. My default Montague (TRUTH) in Dark Choco goes great but if I wanted to go a bit more casual, a messier razor cut would make this pop!

Places to See: Rec Sim

I love exploring, and this is the season to visit the spooky, shadowy, uncanny, unsettling, and sometimes breathtaking places on the grid. First stop on my tour of the haunted (and haunting) places of SL? The immersive and interactive REC. Based on a movie of the same name, the sim recreates the story line of a female reporter and a group of firemen trapped in a rundown apartment building with residents afflicted with illness or worse. Zombies anyone? The in-game build is marvelous from a technical standpoint even if you don't like being spooked (no success yet in getting Freya here!) and comes complete with masterful texturing, sophisticated animations, great props to take home, atmospheric sounds, and a hud that gives the appearance of experiencing the build through a video camera. And my outfit?

I wanted a stylish professional look suitable for a female reporter, and I opted for Velma-esque turtleneck from Haute Style and Co., linen pants and cameo belt from Pixel Dolls, box camera from Le Petit Prince, and a recent happy find -- inexpensive chocolate brown rose boots from G Field.

I barely escaped the lynch mob as some picketing members

of PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) tried to chase me as

I was shopping at CALLIE CLINE. I was in the mood for some

Rainbowa to match my divinely frou frou gloves which I got

Sometimes, a girl just gotta shop.

MAITREYA has always been my weakness. So when the Billow Boots

finally came out, I HAD to get them. They're a blissful addition to anyone's

closet and all 7 colors are just deeeee-lish! I used the Cherry ones for this

pictures but these babies come in 6 other super yummy colors. If you feel

like binging, you can get yourself their fat pack for 2500L. Considering each

pair sells for 550L, that is 40% off you're saving right there.

Of course, no outfit is complete without the matching bag to go with that

perfect pair of shoes. So my next stop was ETD. It didn't take long for

me to find Everyday Tote which completed my ensemble. Big thanks to

Emmanuelle LaFollette for being ever so gracious (I'm still waiting on that

other handbag, by the way.. wink). Jeans by VIVA LA GLAM (alas, the sim

is closed atm and won't open until further notice), Hair is Willow from ETD,

wool scarf is free from Maitreya (I changed color to match boots), earrings

from KRAFTIKA (which I got free from the last Convoitise Hunt), Black Harlot

coat from SNATCH which I snagged for 0L since designer put it out on her

weekly giveaways at one time and the long shirt is also free from EMERY.

You think that's it?

Because there's still this Gold Button Dress that I have to show you. I picked it

up without damaging my linden wallet because they were part of the many nice

outfits from the last weekend hunt at M&R Cupcakes.

Just ignore my right bunbun poking out of the skirt and we can sail right along.

The shoes I paired the gold dress with are from SWALLOWTAIL. They're

very feminine and very intricately designed. Unfortunately, they only have

4 pairs up for sale right now but I'm hoping there will be more soon. The

designer, Natsuko Paravane, is also known for exquisite jewelry based on

organic themes. Pretty, pretty trinkets at the shop so go pay it a visit and

you'll see why I love going there.

Oy vey. That's all. Back to bargain hunting.

Bargain Bonanzas: Bare Rose

One of the pleasures of season cleaning in my inventory is the second jolt of pleasure when, combing through folders, you discover a beautiful piece that you'd forgotten or, if you're a dedicated treasure hunter, perhaps never unwrapped. In spiritual writing, it is pretty commonplace to hear that what you seek is inside, not outside---that's also applicable to my increasingly large inventory. It's easy to forget or undervalue the great finds you're already carrying around.

In my case, I discovered a lot of great outfits from Bare Rose, a bargain bin champ for those who want champagne quality on a Bud Lite budget. The shop has an extensive freebie section and is offering several Halloween friendly items like the Pumpkin Elf costume and fantasy skins along with furniture, props, eyes, and hair. It tops my list of bargain champs, however, because it offers a huge range of knockout outfits for a price around 140L. Many outfits come as "fatpacks" with several transfer_ok color variants. This one, Nocturne 3, comes complete with hair, accessories, and shoes---the only thing added is Gala's spectacular Film Noir skin. The texturing and detail, as with most of the outfits, is remarkable. Bare Rose is a huge store, and you might find it useful to shop with their WEBSITE which provides keyword searching, name searching, pictures, and a slurl right to the garment. If a girl could marry a website, I might fall in love.
